Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms: Uruguay Cohort 2025

Asado

Food & Fellowship

At first I thought asado was just Uruguay’s high quality grilled beef, however, it consists of a variety of meats, including chicken, pork, and sausage. Asado is also more than just cooking. It is a social gathering of family and friends, meant to bring people together.

I had two opportunities to partake in Uruguayan asado. The first was a gathering (18 June 2025) of the Salto group, administrators from Liceo San Antonio, and the owner of the Casa Ambrosini Hotel. The second was a final dinner (24 June 2025) for the entire Uruguay cohort. The asado experience reminded me of how fortunate I am to partake of well-crafted, quality food and to be a part of this cultural tradition of community building, sharing conversations, stories, and laughs with educators from around the world.

Asado is more than food, it’s about the people, and a celebration of community.
